New Japanese Anime is Like a Bizarre Sexist Game Show

For anime fans who may be thinking that there aren’t any new ideas in the medium anymore, better check out “Keijo!!!!!!!!”, a new Japanese anime about women engaging in extreme “butt-fighting” and some “boobs-smashing” action. And no, this is not even Hentai.

The television series, which features bizarre fighting techniques involving women’s boobs and butts, has premiered recently in Japan and streamed online via anime websites, according to Anime News Network.

Based on a hugely popular title from manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday, the new anime title has gone viral in social media for the insane fighting scenes that border on being sexist for its overly sexual portrayal of women.

The preview has so far gained mixed responses from netizens:

“This is one of the weirdest things I have ever seen. You can’t look away. What IS THIS?!??” one comment said.

“I’m so glad this exists but at the same time I’m so worried that this exists,” another one commented.

“There should be a news headline saying “WEIRD JAPANESE GAME SHOW COMES TO ANIME!” I’m surprised it actually took this long for the weirdness of japanese gameshows to come to anime. Anime is already weird but this is a different kind of weird.” observed another one.

The plot is set in an alternate version of reality where “Keijo” a gambling sport that features women-only participants, becomes a fad in 21st century Japan.

Held atop floating platforms in large water-filled stadiums, Keijo matches pit bikini-clad players against each other using only their breasts or buttocks.

The protagonist is Nozomi Kaminashi, a 17-year-old high school student and gifted gymnast who gave up her Olympics dream to pursue becoming a keijo player as it offers a higher monetary reward. The series, produced by Xebec under the direction of Hideya Takahashi, will focus on Nozomi’s journey in the world of keijo, where she will gain some new friends and rivals.

“Keijo!!!!!!!!”, also titled “Hip Whip Girl”,  premiered on Tokyo MX, BS11, and AT-X on October 6 and will air Thursdays at 23:30 (JST), running for a total of 12 episodes.
