For those who grew up watching Pokémon, Ash Ketchum is remembered as that innocent 10-year-old kid busy trying to become a Pokémon master.

While the show has to stay innocent since it targets a younger audience, one of the biggest fan questions is why Ash never seems to show any interest in the opposite sex (or the same sex!). Other anime shows targeting the same demographic has had hints of crushes and romance, but not for Pokémon for the last 20 years.

But that all changed in Pokémon’s latest episode, where one of Ash’s travel companions Serena, kiss him.
