Jeff Whitchurch and his wife Rachel badly wanted a baby, but their journey to having one was a difficult one. After three miscarriages, Rachel finally became pregnant. Though it was a happy moment, the couple from Salt Lake, UT was not ready to celebrate yet. After 28 weeks into the pregnancy, Rachel’s water broke. She was advised by the doctors not to go into labor. As per the doctors, every day she managed to do that, the number of days their son could stay in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) was to reduce by three. As a strong woman, Rachel knew she had to do it for the sake of their son. Research shows that it is only 5% of the mothers whose water breaks manage to keep the baby in the womb for 7 days. According to the doctors, it would be a miracle if she managed it for 10 days. Rachel did more than a miracle – she managed to keep the baby within the womb for 39 good days. Finally, the baby was delivered weighing only 3 pounds.
