If You See A $100 Bill On Your Car, Leave It Alone! Here’s Why!

As much cheer as the holiday season brings, it’s also about the time that scrooges begin to surface. All of the holiday shopping, packages on doorsteps and presents under the tree are too tempting for some. Enter holiday season burglars. One way to steal the cheer from your holiday season is to fall victim to a burglar. Staying well-informed about their latest scams can help you avoid becoming a victim of theft. If you plan on doing some holiday shopping, you’ll want to keep an eye out to ensure your safety. A woman in Prince George’s County, Maryland shared her story in order to help others avoid falling prey to burglar’s scams. She posted a photo on Facebook to warn the public about a new scam that is happening in her area. After shopping, the woman came out to her car and noticed a $100 bill on her windshield. The bill was counterfeit and she snapped a photo. Her post was shared by Facebook users and made its way onto Fox News. If you return to your car after shopping to find one or two $100 bills on your windshield, do not fall prey to this scam. While you reach for the bills, a burglar may try to steal your car while you are distracted.

To avoid theft during the holidays, follow these tips:

  1. Always leave a light on in the house. Empty houses are targets for burglars. If you’re leaving the house for a few hours, leave a few lights on to make it look like you’re home.
  2. Lock your car. Many people leave packages in plain sight in the back seat of their car, which makes it a target for burglars. Put packages in the trunk out of sight and make sure you lock your car.
  3. Don’t Overshare on Social Media. Whether you’re gone for the day, a few days or a few weeks, be careful not to share too much information on social media about your travels. Oversharing on social media will let others know that your house is sitting empty. This is especially important if your profile is public.
