Samsung Galaxy S9 rumored to have a top-end chipset

If we had to guess we’d say that the Samsung Galaxy S9 will probably use the yet to be announced Snapdragon 845 chipset – at least in the US. But we can do more than guess, because a Weibo leaker is now saying the same thing.

The claim has been made by i ice universe, who has a reasonable track record so it could well be true, and it’s not the first we’ve heard of this, with an earlier leak suggesting Samsung and Qualcomm had begun working together on the chip.

Nothing is really known about the Snapdragon 845 chipset yet, but it’s sure to be one of the most powerful mobile chips of 2018, and is likely to be the successor to the Snapdragon 836 – a chip which itself probably won’t debut until the Pixel 2, and which is set to be more powerful than the Snapdragon 835 found in US models of the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Only in the US

However, the Snapdragon 845 will probably also be exclusive to US handsets, as the latest source specifically mentions North America, and as Samsung tends to use its home-grown Exynos chips for the rest of the world.

If you don’t live in the US though you shouldn’t feel left out, as Samsung’s own chipsets tend to be every bit as powerful.
