The total solar eclipse did not disappoint, and we have the photos to prove it
The first total solar eclipse to cross the contiguous U.S. in 99 years did not disappoint. Within the path of totality, which stretched from Oregon to South Carolina, millions of people gazed skyward as day turned into twilight. In other spots, people stopped in the middle of a busy workday to head to a rooftop or a nearby park and catch a partial eclipse.
The eclipse dominated social media on Aug. 21 as well as web surfing habits. On Instagram alone, more than 50 million people had 160 million interactions related to the solar eclipse, according to statistics supplied by the company.
