Elderly Japanese Couple Found Brutally Murdered in Bali
Authorities in Indonesia have officially launched an investigation over the gruesome murder of an elderly Japanese couple in the popular resort destination of Bali.
“This is a planned murder … it’s clear the person has planned it before going to the victims’ house,” Denpasar police chief Hadi Purnomo said in a statement on Monday, The Jakarta Post reported.
Indonesian police are still looking into the motives behind the killing of 76-year-old husband Nurio Matsuba and his 73-year-old wife, Hiroko. However, one of the likely motives behind it that the police are looking into is business.
Purnomo, on his statement, said they will try to “bring in a business colleague from Japan in the near future for questioning” in connection to the deaths of the elderly couple, according to the Japan Times.
The couple’s scorched remains, as said on the reports, were found by their Indonesian foster son on September 4 in the fishing village and resort area, Jimbaran. It was said that their faces were burned beyond recognition.
Nurio and Hiroko had lived in Bali for seven years. The husband, said by the authorities, was a broker who is working for a tuna export company in the area.
No official word yet on the autopsy, but initial examinations revealed multiple stab wounds on the bodies of the elderly victims. Investigators also found ropes and knives at the crime scene.
