There's still time to shop online for Christmas — but you'll have to hurry (AMZN, WMT, TGT, BBY)

  • There are more options than ever to shop at the last minute before Christmas.
  • One- and two-day shipping, same-day shipping, and in-store order pickup are all easy ways to get last-minute gifts.
  • Digital gifts are a new arena for last-minute shoppers as well.

Last-minute shoppers, fear not.

You still have options if you need to get a gift in time for Christmas — and you don't even have to resort to a gift card.

First off, there are still plenty of shipping options. Even though Christmas is on a Monday, one-day and same-day shipping are still available through Amazon in many markets. That's much of Amazon's massive catalog, available to be shipped quickly to your door in time for December 25.

December 23 is the last day for one-day shipping, and December 24 is the last day for same-day. Keep in mind that orders must be placed early, and rush shipping may not be possible, depending on the item.

Christmas Eve is the last day to order from Prime Now, Amazon's two-hour delivery service. Though the service is commonly used for need-it-now things like food and household essentials, its gift selection has been drastically improved for the holiday. That means quality gifts can be ordered through the service at the last minute, with no additional cost to Prime members.

As for shopping at other retailers, now is a good time to take advantage of their beefed-up in-store pickup. Retailers like Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and Toys R Us have all improved their in-store pickup offerings, with orders available for pickup the same day. You'll still need to brave the store on Christmas Eve or the day before, but at least you won't need to actually shop.

For those who would rather do it digitally, GiftNow is a great option. More personal than a gift card, the service makes it possible for shoppers at retailers like Target and Macy's to pick out and buy an item, and then deliver it to a recipient through email. That recipient can then have that item sent to them, or exchange it for something different. It won't be in their hands for Christmas, but they'll know you thought of them.
