Toad's mushroom head is in fact his head, not a hat, Nintendo confirms

After decades of fan speculation, Nintendo has finally settled the debate on whether Toad's mushroom-shaped head is actually a part of his head or a hat.

According to Super Mario Odyssey producer Yoshiaki Koizumi, Toad's mushroom head is in fact his head, and not some sort of hat that every single Toad decides to wear all of the time. The groundbreaking fact was revealed in a short interview with the developer released on Monday.

The debate about what exactly is going on with Toad's head has been ongoing since Toad first appeared in 1985's Super Mario Bros. for the NES.
