Chinese YouTuber Faces Jail After Pranking Homeless Man With ‘Toothpaste Oreos’

A Chinese YouTuber based in Barcelona, Spain is facing up to two years in prison after giving a homeless man Oreos filled with toothpaste for a prank.

Kanghua Ren, who goes by the moniker ReSet, has 1.2 million subscribers on the video sharing platform.

In a now-deleted video, the YouTuber can be seen stuffing Oreo cookies with toothpaste and taking them to a homeless man out on the street.

The man, identified as 52-year-old Gheorghe L., took the Oreos and ate them. He was a former pastor in Romania, according to Spanish outlet El Pais.

Ren, who also handed €20 ($25), even joked that the cookies should clean the man’s teeth. The Independent quoted him as saying:

“Maybe I’ve gone a bit far, but look at the positive side: this will help him clean his teeth. I think he hasn’t cleaned them since he became poor.”

The video, which immediately sparked fury, brought in over €2,180 ($2,675) for advertisements, as per court documents.

Ren, who was just ordered to return to China, was charged with a crime against moral integrity.

“I got sick after five minutes and threw up,” Gheorghe L. said, adding that he never knew about the YouTuber.

Ren, along with a friend, reportedly returned to Gheorghe L. amid the online furor and asked to spend the night with him. However, a witness saw the interaction and called the police.

Ren reportedly offered Gheorghe L. €300 ($368) in exchange for his silence so that he can “reestablish his image” and “ingratiate himself with public opinion.”

Netizens have been storming his other videos with angry comments:

Prosecutors are seeking to put Ren in prison for two years and pay Gheorghe L. €30,000 ($36,807) in compensation. He is currently out on bail.

Sadly, this is not the first time the YouTuber has been caught in a scandal over his conduct. Past investigations revealed that he also offered children and elderly people sandwiches filled with his cat’s feces in the past, according to The Independent.
