People are Poking Fun at the White House’s ‘Commemorative Coin’ as Peace Talks Go Off and On Again

In what may be considered the on-again off-again “breakup” of the century, Donald Trump went from officially confirming that the U.S. is pulling out of peace talks with North Korea to saying they are back on again.

While this is rollercoaster news, some people couldn’t help but poke fun at Trump’s cancellation letter to Kim Jong-un, describing the tone of it to be similar to that of a “breakup” letter.

Many people left their comments in Trump’s Twitter thread, pointing out the absurdity of the letter’s tone.

Even after breaking up, Trump still couldn’t help but drop how MASSIVE his “nuclear capabilities” are.

The news of the cancellation came on Thursday after it was reported that Pyongyang failed to respond to the White House’s requests to help with organizing the summit that is supposed to be held in Singapore on June 12.

According to reports, U.S. officials went to Singapore last week to meet up with North Korean diplomats, but the meeting did not happen.

They waited and they waited. The North Koreans never showed up. They simply stood us up,” an official said according to South China Morning Post. Trump, during his speech earlier on Thursday and in his letter, cited the rogue nation’s “tremendous anger and open hostility” in their recent statement.

Trump’s comment is likely referring to the statement that North Korean official dropped a few days back, warning the U.S. of a nuclear showdown if they backed down from the meeting. The official also called Vice President Mike Pence a “political dummy” after he compared North Korea to Libya should the former not reach common ground with the U.S. during their talks.

This recent turn of events has also generated a lot of discussion on the commemorative coins that the U.S. made to cement this momentous occasion — the occasion that will now never happen.

Before the meeting was called back on again, possibly as soon as the 12th of June, people were asking what will happen to the coin. Here are some of the crafty social media posts that people came up with solutions:

Guess there’s some truth to the old adage “don’t count your chickens before they hatch.”

People are now demanding refunds — and rightfully so.

As if the humiliation wasn’t enough, someone has to really point this one out.

After announcing that the meeting was back on, Trump commented on the matter on Friday before heading out to Annapolis Naval Academy to give a commencement speech:

“We’re going to see what happens. We’re talking to them now. It was a very nice statement they put out. We’ll see what happens. It could even be the 12th. We’re talking to them now. They very much want to do it. We’d like to do it.”
