New Men’s Pants from Uniqlo Brand Totally Doesn’t Want You to Look at the Crotch

A new line of men’s pants under Uniqlo’s budget-priced fashion brand GU has got the Japanese consumers scratching their heads for its curious design.

Designed by renowned British designer Kim Jones, most of the clothes in the collection are reportedly fine by most people’s standards.

However, many Japanese netizens have taken exception to the slim taper pants that purposely highlighted the crotch area.

With a differently-colored strip of material covering the wearer’s genitals, the pants are destined to invite a glance or two from bewildered onlookers.

Images of the pants with an attention-grabbing fly have gone viral on social media platforms in Japan, with many questioning the design choice, according to Kotaku.

In a post that has been retweeted over 27,000 times, Twitter user Vitz_Nao pointed out the absurdity of the pants.

“These men’s bottoms, the hell are they. Is this design what’s fashionable now? These pants are embarrassing, and I’m not going to wear them. Is it strange I’m being sensitive? Why change the color there,” Vitz_Nao wrote in Japanese.

“Apparently, the designer is famous. Japanese people are shy, so this might be a bit much,” he added.

Commenters on Japan’s largest online bulletin board “2ch” did not hold back on their criticisms toward the design.

“Guess this is a dick holder,” a netizen commented.

“Truly, this is ridiculous,” one user wrote.

“This is for exhibitionists,” another commented.

“Depending on the person, one would probably call this public indecency,” shared one.

Kim Jones’ other designs for the local brand did not gain fans as well:

According to Soranews24, the pants have already gone on sale, with a pair now priced just at around $9.
