Vietnamese Woman Killed by Teen in Botched Robbery 3 Days After Her Wedding
A 14-year-old boy who killed a 29-year-old Vietnamese woman in a botched robbery last April outside of her home in Houston, Texas, has been captured by authorities on Sunday.
The tragic incident happened on April 4 when the victim, Tuyen “Monica” Nguyen, who got married three days before the shooting, left her mother Quoc Le’s home at around 11 p.m., according to ABC13.
Nguyen was found dead by her husband on the front lawn of their home on Langdon Lane the following morning with her car keys still in her hand.
Sources said that the 14-year-old boy, whose name was not revealed due to his age, along with a group of teenagers randomly picked Nguyen to rob. However, he panicked and shot her in the head.
“A hardworking person came to the U.S. and just got killed,” a family friend, Ronald Pham, said. “It’s very sad.”
The victim worked for various nail salons in the area to support her elderly mother and sick brother, who are still in Vietnam.

“Monica is supposed to take care of the mother. Now that she has passed, nobody will take care of her,” Pham said.
During the teenager’s detention court hearing on Tuesday, a judge ruled for him to remain in juvenile custody.
“Obviously capital murder is a very serious charge in any court,” Garry Polland, the teenager’s attorney, said. “Right now, he is charged as a juvenile. His age is 14. He could be certified as an adult, but that has not occurred yet.”
“I’m angry,” Le said with the help of Pham’s interpretation. “I will depend on the Houston police and the district attorney to do their jobs.”
