Nikon is Sorry That the Z7 is Selling So Quickly

Nikon issued an apology today, saying that the new Z7 full-frame mirrorless camera is getting pre-ordered so much that many photographers won’t be able to get their hands on the camera when it officially arrives on September 27th.

Nikon is reportedly producing 20,000 Z7 cameras per month at its factory in Sendai, Japan, but that number won’t be enough to keep the camera from being out of stock the minute it officially launches.

Customers who don’t place pre-orders will likely find it impossible to snag a retail camera on September 27th, and even customers who have placed reservations may see their camera’s arrival date pushed back.

There has been grumbling from some photographers over certain specs and features (or the lack thereof) in the new Z cameras, but it seems those criticisms haven’t made much of a dent in customer interest. The Nikon Z7 is going the way of the Nikon D850, which was sold out before it was even out (Nikon also apologized in that case).

In addition to the Z7 and its various bundle options, the newly announced Nikon 500mm f/5.6 PF ED VR lens will also be delayed due to high demand.

“We deeply apologize for causing serious inconveniences to our concerned parties, including customers who are looking forward to products,” Nikon says in its apology (with automated translation). “We will make every effort to deliver it as soon as possible to meet your expectations, so we appreciate your kind understanding.”
