Mechanic Arrested After Hitting Customer with a Hammer During Fight in Singapore
A 60-year-old car workshop owner is now being investigated by the authorities after he allegedly hit a customer during an altercation in his garage last month.
The incident, which was all captured on video, took place at the man’s workshop in Singapore on September 27, according to Stomp. Police were called in at 3:49 p.m. for assistance to break up the fight.
“A 60-year-old man was subsequently arrested for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means and criminal intimidation,” a police spokesman said in a statement.
The clip started off with the owner and the man, only identified by his surname as Liu, arguing in front of the latter’s car who he had brought in to the garage after getting into a road accident.
Things, however, turned into chaos the moment the owner stopped holding up the Toyota’s car’s hood, allowing it to land on the customer’s hands that were still inside.
From that moment on, the two furious men started shouting while the older man holds a hammer.
Liu and another man try to push the car out of the workshop, but the owner was insistent and he blocked the car by pushing it back from the opposite side.
Liu, while speaking with Lianhe Wanbao, revealed that he recently recommended the shop to a man who got into an accident. Liu was reportedly given a commission fee of 8,000 Singaporean dollars ($5,781) for recommending the shop to a friend. However, the friend decided not to take his car to that garage, and the failed deal angered the workshop owner.
As a result, the owner detained Liu’s car which was also at the shop for repair work. Furthermore, the owner demanded the man pay back the commission worth of 8,000 Singaporean dollars ($5,781).
“That day, I went to the garage with a friend to collect my car. The boss insisted that I return the money, even threatening to hit my car with a hammer if I did not do so,” he told the publication.
“During our argument, he used the wooden end of the hammer to hit me on the back of my head. I called the police afterwards. Because my head was in pain from being hit, I went to Sengkang Community Hospital, where I was hospitalized and placed under observation for one day.”
After failing to move the car, Liu went around to confront the owner again. The elderly man tries to swing his hammer, but the customer managed to evade it.
The two continued to tussle as Liu shoved the owner with his chest while stretching his arm around as if he is provoking the man to come at him.
While speaking with Wanbao, the owner made it clear that he had no intention of injuring the man. He also said that he went to the doctor and had to take three days of rest after being shoved by Liu forcefully.
However, the owner couldn’t offer any assistance with the investigation as he reportedly had to rush to Hong Kong, but he told the publication that he would gladly assist authorities once he gets back on October 11.
