Tennessee Mom Shot Her Adopted Chinese Children 34 Times Before Killing Herself
A mother of four adopted Chinese girls shot and killed her daughters before taking her own life in their Tennessee home, according to an autopsy report of the murder-suicide.
Davidson County Senior Associate Medical Examiner David Zimmerman said that Cynthia Collier’s 17-year-old daughter, Kaileigh Lin, was found with 13 gunshot wounds on the bathroom floor in their Carters Creek Pike home in Columbia on October 15, according to WKRN.
The second oldest, 15-year-old Lia Lin, was found on her bed with nine gunshot wounds. Bo and Meigan Li, both 14, were also killed on their bed, received four and eight gunshot wounds respectively.
Collier, a stay-at-home mother, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her head.
It was reported that the death of the four children was ruled as a homicide, while Collier’s death was ruled as a suicide. A suicide note was also mentioned in the autopsy report, but the contents of the letter were not revealed to the media.
Sleeping aids, ZzzQuil and melatonin, were found inside Collier’s kitchen.
“There’s a lot of angst and uncertainty and trying to figure out why and how this could happen,” Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles said, adding that the tragedy made an impact on the entire community. “How could four children be taken all at once in such a violent fashion. We’ll never fully understand what happened, but maybe we can learn from it, bringing awareness to mental illness.”
Authorities have yet to find out the motive behind the murder-suicide.
