What's new on Netflix Australia for June 2019

As the number of shows and movies available to stream in Australia continues to grow at an impressive rate, it can be tough to keep up with all the new additions to each streaming service each month.

We've all come to anticipate a new stable of Netflix Originals releases each month, but figuring out which shows they are and when exactly they become available isn't so easy. And what about the large number licensed shows and films that are made available to stream, if only for a limited time?

In an effort to keep you informed of the best shows and movies that are in the process of being added to Netflix, we'll be bringing you an updated list of what you can expect on the service on a monthly basis.

TV shows highlights for June 2019

Black Mirror: Season 5 (5/06/2019)

The mind-bending series Black Mirror continues to mix things up this year, with the show's fifth season consisting of only three star-studded episodes: 

Smithereens: A cab driver (Andrew Scott) with an agenda becomes the centre of attention on a day that rapidly spirals out of control.

Striking Vipers: Two estranged college friends (Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) reunite in later life, triggering a series of events that could alter their lives forever.

Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too  A lonely teenager (Angourie Rice) yearns to connect with her favourite pop star (Miley Cyrus) - whose charmed existence isn’t quite as rosy it appears...

Marvel's Jessica Jones: Season 3 (Coming Soon)

Netflix hasn't settled on an exact release date for its final Marvel series, but rest assured – It will arrive in June. Jessica Jones: Season 3 finds our titular hero (Krysten Ritter) crossing paths with a highly intelligent psychopath. Of course, she'll need the help of Trish (Rachael Taylor) to take him down – a tricky prospect given that they aren't on speaking terms.

The Chef Show (7/06/2019)

If you loved Jon Favreau's delightful comedy Chef, you're going to adore The Chef Show, which sees the actor/director reunite with the film's leading food advisor, Chef Roy Choi, to embark on new cooking adventures, like sharing a meal with the Avengers cast in Atlanta...

Neon Genesis Evangelion (21/06/2019)

For the first time ever, the acclaimed anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion is available to stream in glorious high definition. For those who've never seen the seminal series, it follows several teenage mecha pilots as they fight to protect Japan from the monstrous Angels. Of course, it's far deeper than it sounds – first-timers probably won't be prepared for how philosophical the series is. It isn't afraid to openly criticise the mecha genre, and it also delves deep into the effects of depression.

Recently announced as a Netflix Original, the latest entry in the enduring Shaft saga sees the titular bad mother--(shut yo mouth!)-- erm, detective (once again played by Samuel L. Jackson) team up with his son, John Shaft Jr. (Jessie T. Usher) to discover the truth about a friend's death.

Crazy Rich Asians (12/06/2019)

A delightful modern-day fairy tale that took the world by storm, Crazy Rich Asians follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) to Singapore to meet the insanely wealthy family of her boyfriend (Henry Golding), only to find huge cultural differences and disapproval.

The Princess Bride (1/06/2019)

One of the very best family films of all time, The Princess Bride sees a grandfather (Peter Falk) read his sick grandson (Fred Savage) the story of a farmboy-turned-pirate (Cary Elwes) who encounters numerous obstacles, enemies and allies (including Mandy Patinkin and André the Giant) in his quest to be reunited with his true love (Robin Wright).
