Karrueche Tran Condemns Growing Racist Attacks Against Asians

Actress Karrueche Tran has recently condemned the continued racism against Asians often linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a recent post on Instagram, Tran lamented how the growing number of attacks against people of Asian descent has struck fear in members of the Asian community.

“Xenophobia is not ok!! To target and discriminate against Asians is wrong!! There are Asians afraid to leave their homes! There are people who have already been hurt.”

In her post, Tran alluded to an incident involving an “older Asian man” without going into specifics.

One particular case she could be referring to is the elderly Asian man who was assaulted and humiliated in San Francisco’s Bayview as he was collecting cans.

The incident, which was caught on film, involved an elderly Chinese man being robbed of his cart of cans as the cameraman cheers on the alleged robber while making racially charged remarks.

⚠️PLEASE NOTE⚠️- The text displayed in the video is inaccurate and posted before the men in uniform were confirmed. The men in uniform are employees of a full service armed security company called ‘Critical Intervention Patrol’. They provide private security services for the bayview/hunters point area of SF. @criticalinterventionpatrol @criticalintvnpatrol1 . . People were confusing the men in uniform as SFPD but they’re security for the area and was around when the incident occurred… We aren’t sure why they let the man or group of black males that harassed, humiliated and attacked the helpless Asian man with a weapon walk away with his cans though. . . They should have called the cops to step in. Lots of questions are being raised at the moment. 🤔 . This elderly Asian man is out here trying to do what he can to survive and they just kicked him away like that. Stand by to hear more on this story… . . It’s just still shocking that these black males are going around screaming they hate Asians on social media. We are out here trying to push diversity forward and they’re just bringing us 10 steps back. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ Right now, we all just want to help the man that suffered from this incident. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 . . . #bayarea #sanfrancisco #bayareafoodz @bayareafoodz #asiansneverdie

Over the past couple of weeks, there has been a spate of racially motivated attacks against Asians in the U.S. and other parts of the world as the coronavirus infected more people globally.

Tran, who identifies as both Asian and Black, also declared in her post that “the coronavirus is not ‘the Chinese virus.’”

Earlier this week, Donald Trump was heavily criticized for his choice of words in describing COVID-19 as “the Chinese Virus” in several instances.

“The United States will be powerfully supporting those industries, like Airlines and others, that are particularly affected by the Chinese Virus. We will be stronger than ever before!” Trump wrote in a tweet on March 16.

The following day, he used the phrase again in a tweet about New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

“Cuomo wants ‘all states to be treated the same.’ But all states aren’t the same. Some are being hit hard by the Chinese Virus, some are being hit practically not at all. New York is a very big ‘hotspot’, West Virginia has, thus far, zero cases. Andrew, keep politics out of it….” he wrote.

On Wednesday, Trump defended his use of the phrase “Chinese Virus” during a press conference, saying that he was just being accurate as the virus came from China.

“It’s not racist at all, no, not at all,” he said. “It comes from China, that’s why. I want to be accurate.”
