Trump lawyers filed a motion in Pennsylvania to clarify they only want to block the state from certifying results of the presidential elections, not any other races on the same ballot

President Donald Trump speaks at the first day of the Republican National Convention on August 24, 2020, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
  • Lawyers for President Donald Trump filed a motion to clarify that their previous request to block certifying the election results in Pennsylvania only pertains to the presidential election, not the other races though they are on the same ballot, Reuters' Brad Heath reported Thursday.
  • "Plaintiffs seek a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to prevent Defendants from certifying the 2020 Presidential election," the memorandum reads. "While the First Amended Complaint is sufficient to sustain this relief, Plaintiffs again ask the Court to permit them to amend and base the sought relief on the proposed Second Amended Complaint. Plaintiffs do not seek to enjoin the certification of any other Pennsylvania election."
  • Trump's legal advisors initially filed a request earlier this week seeking to block certifying election results in Pennsylvania, which they claim were fraudulent after some voters were allowed to correct their ballots.
  • "This maladministration reached the point of patent and fundamental unfairness and evidences an intentional attempt by Defendants to jeopardize both the ability of Pennsylvanians to select their leaders and the constitutional rights of Plaintiff," the lawsuit read.
  • Rudy Giuliani, Trump's personal attorney, also appeared in a courtroom for the first time in decades to argue for halting vote certification in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.
  • "You're asking this court to invalidate more than 6.8 million votes, thereby disenfranchising every single voter in the commonwealth," Judge Matthew Brann said at the hearing. "Can you tell me how this result can possibly be justified?"
  • Business Insider's Jacob Shamsian reported that Giuliani and Marc Scaringi — the two remaining attorneys on the case after other attorneys withdrew from the case —asked a federal judge to hand over Pennsylvania's electors in a court filing.
  • "Ultimately, Plaintiffs will seek the remedy of Trump being declared the winner of the legal votes cast in Pennsylvania in the 2020 General Election, and, thus, the recipient of Pennsylvania's electors," Giuliani and Scaringi wrote in the filing.
  • Brann has not yet ruled whether to accept the revised memorandum.
  • "Other parties in the case — including Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, several counties, and civil-rights groups such as the NAACP — have asked for the case to be dismissed, saying the Trump campaign has brought little evidence to back up its claims of mass voter fraud and has demonstrated little understanding of Pennsylvania election law," Shamsian reported.
  • Giuliani and other campaign lawyers have made efforts in a number of battleground states to contest the 2020 election results, with unsubstantiated claims of election and voter fraud.
  • Such efforts have been largely fruitless as lawsuits filed by both the Trump campaign and supporters across the country are being withdrawn or denied in federal courts, according to reports.
  • Trump still has yet to concede the 2020 election as he continues to tout conspiracy theories of election fraud, impeding the transition of President-elect Joe Biden.
  • The General Services Administration, which reserves the power to begin the formal transition between administrations, still has yet to publicly acknowledge Biden's win.
