GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger on Saturday condemned House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for allowing "actual insanity" in the GOP after a video surfaced showing Trump ally Lin Wood spouting more election lies.

"Liz was removed by Kevin McCarthy for pushing back against this: This is why we tell the truth, because too many 'leaders' are acting like this is ok. This is actual insanity," Kinzinger tweeted.

The video shows Wood, who is currently running to chair South Carolina's Republican Party, telling a room full of supporters that Donald Trump is still president and that the US military would still all on him "for the code if they need a first strike."

The Illinois Republican also defended Liz Cheney after she was removed as chair of the House Republican Conference on Wednesday for pushing back against conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election.

Kinzinger - along with Cheney - was among the 10 House Republicans who supported Trump's second impeachment over the January 6 Capitol violence. Since then, he's been warning against the party's current beliefs.

Earlier this week, the GOP lawmaker accused McCarthy of ignoring warning signs from fellow lawmakers that the events of January 6 were likely to turn violent, USA Today reported.

"A few days before Jan 6, our GOP members had a conference call. I told Kevin that his words and our party's actions would lead to violence on January 6th. Kevin dismissively responded with, 'ok Adam, operator next question.' And we got violence," Kinzinger tweeted on Monday.

The Capitol insurrection led to the deaths of five people, including one police officer. More than 470 people involved in the riot have been charged so far.

Kinzinger once also likened the Republican Party to the Titanic, telling CBS an interview that the GOP was "in the middle of this slow sink."
