Early Prime Day Amazon deals

Amazon Prime Day is the best time of year to find deals on Amazon products and devices. Echo Smart Speakers, Fire TVs, Kindle E-readers, and other Amazon-brand devices drop to all-time lows with unbeatable bundles that we don't see again until Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Early Prime Day TV deals

If you've been looking to upgrade to a new TV, Prime Day is an excellent time to do so. Whether you're shopping for a compact budget model or a large top-tier OLED, chances are you'll find one on sale for a great price this week.

Early Prime Day Apple deals

Apple devices tend to be discounted throughout the year, but it isn't until events like Amazon Prime Day that they drop to really worthwhile prices. iPads, AirPods, Apple Watches, and more are expected to fall to their best prices of the year, from more retailers than just Amazon.

Early Prime Day tech and gaming deals

Whether you're shopping for some new smart home gear or just a new video game, Prime Day brings some of the lowest prices of the year on tech products. The event is a great time to buy streaming devices, gaming accessories, headphones, fitness trackers, and much more.

Early Prime Day home and kitchen deals

Amazon Prime Day is a good time to find home and kitchen deals, as they're usually featuring prices matching Black Friday and Cyber Monday. From SodaStreams and air fryers to name-brand dog beds, we're already seeing excellent deals worth taking advantage of.

Early Prime Day beauty and fashion deals

Prime Day features excellent deals on just about every product category Amazon has to offer, and that includes beauty and apparel. If you've been holding off on shopping for that pricey new styling tool, now is the time to buy.

Early Prime Day toy and gift deals

When it comes to gifts for kids, Amazon Prime Day has you covered. Toys for every age, from small businesses and licensed franchises, are dropping to their best prices of the season.

What is Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is the retailer's annual two-day shopping event for Prime members. It's a global event that's celebrated in more than 20 countries. It's so big, in fact, that it's called by some as "Black Friday in July."

Each year brings significant markdowns on products in just about every category you can think of, and most notably, the lowest prices of the year on Amazon-branded devices.

While it's never too early to prepare for Prime Day, there's a chance this won't be the only big, exclusive sale from the e-commerce giant in 2022. Details are sparse, but it's been rumored that Amazon will host another Prime Day later this year.

When is Prime Day 2022?

Amazon Prime Day 2022 will take place on Tuesday, July 12 and Wednesday, July 13. Deals begin at 12 a.m. Pacific Time and will run for 48 hours.

Is Prime Day only for Prime members?

Yes, you will need to have an Amazon Prime membership to take advantage of the deals during Prime Day.

It's worth noting that beyond Prime Day, a Prime account includes free two-day or same-day shipping. It also includes Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Try Before You Buy (formerly Prime Wardrobe), and other perks.

What are the best deals on Prime Day?

For Prime Day every year, Amazon offers massive discounts on its own devices, so expect to see plenty of deals on Fire TV devices, Echo devices, Kindles, Amazon Halo devices, eero mesh WiFi systems, and Blink and Ring security devices.

Last year, the best-selling product categories worldwide included tools, beauty, nutrition, baby care, apparel, and household products, according to Amazon. Top-selling products ranged from the iRobot ROomba 692 Robot Vacuum to Crest 3D Whitestrips

For 2022, Amazon has previewed it will offer massive discounts on Fire TV devices. Other notable deals include 20% off on Goop skincare, up to 50% off on select headphones from Beats, Sony, and Jabra, up to 40% on select styles from Levi's, and up to 25% off on chef David Chang's line of Momofuku pantry products.

With plans to take off up to 45% off dorm room essentials, Amazon is also already thinking about back-to-school shoppers. Expect to see 30% off backpacks and school supplies, 25% off on laptops and monitors from HP, Dell, and Microsoft, plus big savings on college-friendly kitchen gadgets like Keurigs, SodaStream soda makers, and Calphalon cookware.

If you've got a little one, keep your eye on toy deals. Amazon will be offering 40% on American Girl dolls, up to 30% off LEGO sets, and 30% off select Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars toys and apparel. And if you're a pet parent, Prime Day is a great time to stock up on pet-care essentials, which will see discounts up to 30% off.

How long do deals last?

While Prime Day lasts for 48 hours, it's important to understand that many deals do sell out quickly. For example, Lightning Deals are limited-time, limited-inventory discounts. They are Amazon's version of a flash sale — complete with a countdown clock — and lasts for just a few hours or until the item sells out.

How to get free Amazon credits

If you're interested in scoring a good deal on Prime Day, chances are you'll be interested in scoring free credits to spend on Prime Day, too. Every year, Amazon runs several promos to earn credits, and this year is no different.

  • Get $5 for seeing "Elvis": Similar to the promotion above, you'll get $5 if you purchase a ticket to see the new "Elvis" movie.
  • Get $2 for visiting the Amazon Affirm hub: It may be the smallest credit, but it's the easiest to earn. Affirm allows you to break up your purchases into payments over time — all you need to do is visit the hub page and scroll down to the bottom.

How to prepare for Prime Day

Sign up for Prime: As a reminder, only Prime members can participate in Prime Day. That said, you can take advantage of the free 30-day trial and cancel it after the event. If you plan to cancel your account after Prime Day, be sure to set a reminder.

Start shopping now: With big sales events like Prime Day, it's easy to fill your cart with things you don't need. That's why we recommend setting a budget and a shortlist of specific items you want to buy in advance. Take the time to outline what items you want to buy, research them in advance, and then save them to your Amazon Wish List so you're ready to go if those items go on sale.

Consider maximizing your rewards: The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature credit card is a no-brainer for anyone who does a lot of shopping on Amazon. In addition to receiving a $200 Amazon gift card for signing up before Prime Day, you'll get 5% back year-round on everything you buy from the site and from Whole Foods market, with an additional 10% to 20% back on select products.

Tips for finding the best deals on Prime Day

Check the price history: The best Prime Day advice is to always compare historical prices with Prime Day prices. To understand if you're actually getting a good deal, use the free tool CamelCamelCamel. It is the most trusted Amazon price trackers available, and you can get notifications for price deceases for any product listed on Amazon.

Monitor lightning deals: Lightning Deals — flash sales that only last a few hours — are a big part of Prime Day, and you'll need to be ready to buy right away due to limited quantities. However, if the item you want does sell out, you can join the waitlist. If someone doesn't complete the purchase within 15 minutes, the deal is made available to the next person on the waitlist.

Set up deal notifications: This is where coming with a plan for specific items you want to buy pays off. If you download the Amazon mobile app, you can set up deal alerts for the items you care about. First, you'll want to add the items to your Amazon Wish List. Then, all you have to do is open up the Amazon app and navigate to your Settings. From the drop-down menu, click Notifications. From there, turn on Your Watched & Waitlisted Deals

Double-check the specs: If you're hunting for gadgets and tech devices specifically, take a close look at the specs, especially if you're looking at refurbished older models. If you wouldn't buy the product at full price, you may want to rethink your purchase. General rule of thumb: It's a good idea to buy tech with specs with the future in mind, not just right now.

Look to sales outside of Amazon: Amazon isn't the only retailer offering deals during Prime Day. You may find the same items on sale at Target, Best Buy, and other major retailers. Beyond major retailers, dozens of brands host competing sales.

Follow Insider Reviews: We've been covering Prime Day since its inception, and if you don't have time to prep, we've got you covered. We'll be surfacing up the best deals across the entire sale and keeping our coverage fresh and up-to-date.

What other retailers are competing with Prime Day?

Other retailers take advantage of Prime Day by offering their own deals in and around the same dates that Prime Day takes place. Target Deal Days will run from July 11 through July 13, and will have deals on products across gaming, smarty home, audio, personal care, and vacuums.

Best Buy's Black Friday in July sale runs through July 11 through July 13, where you can expect competitive tech deals on TVs, phones, tablets, smartwatches, and laptops. Walmart, meanwhile, isn't expecting to hold an official rival event to Prime Day, but we're expecting to see big markdowns.
