  • Michael B. Jordan's "Creed III" premiered exclusively in theaters on March 3.
  • The boxing drama is the ninth movie in the "Rocky" franchise and the first without Sylvester Stallone.
  • "Creed III" is expected to stream on Prime Video later this year, and could hit VOD in April.

"Creed III" premiered on March 3 exclusively in theaters. Michael B. Jordan directs and stars in the latest spinoff of the "Rocky" film series.

Picking up after the events of "Creed II" (2018), "Creed III" follows Adonis "Donnie" Creed (Michael B. Jordan) as he's reunited with Damian "Dame" Anderson (Jonathan Majors), a childhood friend and one-time boxing prodigy. While also balancing his family life, Donnie must prepare to face off against Dame in a fight that goes much deeper than just boxing.

In addition to stepping behind the camera for "Creed III," Michael B. Jordan reprises his role as Adonis Creed from the first two "Creed" movies. Tessa Thompson returns as Donnie's wife Bianca, along with Phylicia Rashad as Donnie's adoptive mother Mary Anne Creed. The "Rocky" spinoff also stars Jonathan Majors as Donnie's rival Damian Anderson.

"Creed III" is the ninth movie in the "Rocky" franchise. However, it marks the first installment without Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, the character he originated in 1976.

How to watch 'Creed III'

"Creed III" is now available to watch exclusively in theaters. The movie premiered in cinemas on March 3. As such, you won't be able to purchase or stream the "Rocky" spinoff at home just yet.

In addition to standard showings, "Creed III" is playing in IMAX and Dolby Cinema at higher prices. You can purchase tickets to see "Creed III" at local or national theater chains like AMC, Regal, and Cinemark via their own platforms or third-party sites like Fandango, Atom, and MovieTickets.com.

When will 'Creed III' be available to stream?

As of March 3, "Creed III" has yet to be given an official streaming release date. But, since the movie is produced by MGM and distributed by United Artists, it's expected that "Creed III" will be available to stream with an Amazon Prime Video subscription later this year.

Amazon owns MGM and has a 50% stake in United Artists, which is why Amazon's streaming service is the most likely home for "Creed III." However, previous licensing deals that existed before Amazon's purchase of MGM in 2021 could see the movie end up another platform. We'll update this article when an official streaming release has been confirmed.

Most of United Artists' recent movies have also been released to buy or rent from digital retailers about one to two months after their theatrical premieres. For example, "Women Talking" hit PVOD on February 21, 60 days after its theatrical premiere. Meanwhile, "Bones and All" became available to rent just one month after premiering in theaters.

If "Creed III" follows suit, it will likely be available for purchase or rental from digital retailers starting April 4 at the earliest or May 2 at the latest.

Will Rocky be in 'Creed III'?

"Creed III" is the first movie in the "Rocky" franchise without Rocky Balboa. Actor Sylvester Stallone decided he would not be returning for the latest movie in the series.

Will there be a 'Creed IV'?

At the time of writing, "Creed IV" has not been officially announced. However, "Creed III" director and star Michael B. Jordan told IGN that it's "for sure" being planned. The decision on whether "Creed IV" moves forward will likely depend on the new movie's box office performance.

Is 'Creed III' worth watching?

"Creed III" debuted to overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, holding an "86% Certified Fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes as of March 3. The film has been praised for Michael B. Jordan's direction, original fight sequences, fresh story, and performances.

Critics have also remarked on the impressive nature of "Creed III" proving that the "Rocky" franchise doesn't need Rocky Balboa to succeed. For fans of compelling sports dramas, "Creed III" is well worth a watch.
