  • A video published by Ukraine's border guards on Tuesday follows a unit fighting in Bakhmut.
  • At one point, one of the soldiers calls for help over the radio after his legs were hit by shrapnel.
  • The video follows the unit as they drive in the night to rescue the soldier and treat his wounds.

Intense video footage showed the moment Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut picked up a soldier and attempt to treat his shrapnel-hit legs in the back of a van.

The segment is part of a 26-minute-long video published by Ukraine's State Border Guard Service on Tuesday.

It follows a unit of Ukrainian soldiers going on missions around the streets of Bakhmut, a city located in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region which has become the epicenter of intense fighting in recent months.

The video shows one moment where some soldiers in a command bunker receive a radio call for help from one of their own in the field.

You can watch the moment around the 20.28 mark here. The video depicts a man in extreme pain and some blood.

"Shit! Help me," the injured soldier says over a radio, per a translation added to the video by the border guard.

The soldier receiving the call responds by saying a team will be dispatched to get him, telling them that a house had "collapsed on him."

The video then follows at least three men as they get into a van while discussing where they will drive to and how they will treat the wounded soldier.

It appears to be nighttime during the rescue mission, and the car is not driving with any lights on.

Bakhmut is the site of the most intense fighting between Russia and Ukraine, and has claimed thousands of lives on both sides.

"There was artillery shelling of the positions. One killed, one wounded, his legs are broken," one soldier says to the camera. "If the legs are broken, it could be arterial bleeding, theoretically. I have to apply a tourniquet. We are waiting for the team and waiting for the car."

The video then shows the team dragging the injured soldier into the car as he groans in pain. Two men appear to start treating him, cutting open his pants to reveal a large blood stain.

"I'm going to bandage you up and give you a painkiller," one soldier tells the injured man. "And then you will have a cigarette, music, and maybe even girls."

The injured soldier then asks whether he has lost his leg, to which the other says: "What are you talking about! You have a shrapnel wound, maybe your bone is damaged. You will be out for two months, but your leg will remain. Don't worry about it."

It wasn't clear from the footage what happened next.
