Foreign Student Missing for 12 Years Was Kidnapped to Become Kim Jong Un’s English Tutor

Twelve years ago, David Sneddon disappeared during a hiking trip in China’s Yunnan province. He was a 24-year-old Brigham Young University student at the time.

But Chinese police and the U.S. Embassy failed to find him, much to his parents’ grief. According to Fox News, China resorted to believe that he fell to his death in Tiger Leaping Gorge.

The Tiger Leaping Gorge is a canyon on Yunnan’s Jinsha River popular among tourists, the Daily Mail noted.

However, the theory did not convince his parents. His mom Kathleen said:

“We knew in our heart that he was alive, so we had to keep fighting.”

Now, their questions might finally have answers. Choi Sung Yong, head of the Abductees’ Family Union in South Korea, revealed that David was kidnapped to become Kim Jong Un’s personal English tutor, Yahoo News Japan reported.

Choi retrieved this knowledge from informed sources to North Korea, who added that David is already married to a North Korean woman and has two children. He is reportedly based in Pyongyang.

As it turned out, the news did not surprise his parents, who currently live in Providence. They thought North Korea took him for training purposes owing to his fluency in Korean.
David’s family learned on Wednesday that the U.S. Department of State is formally launching an active search in North Korea, Deseret News said.
