Teen suspects a woman is being kidnapped, quickly befriends her kidnapper and saves her life

We’ve all had experiences where we see something and it just feels a little off. This may be an individual acting strange, a suspicious looking car, etc. “Do I follow my gut feeling and say something or not?” Sometimes we speak up, but often times we don’t. It’s just how these things work, but things were different this time for a young teenage from Montreal.

On August 1st, 2015, Malyk Bonnet, 17-years-old, decided to follow his gut feeling and make a difference. His decision to intervene perhaps even saved a woman’s life that day.

The teen was getting off his shift when something caught his attention. At the restaurant where he works, he saw a man and woman arguing. “The guy was screaming at her, the girl,” Bonnet told CBC News. “He wasn’t really gentle with her, and I started watching, because I thought he would hit her, so I approached them a little bit.”

Upon being in their vicinity, the pair asked Bonnet if he could lend them money to take the bus to Laval (a nearby city). Instead of denying their request, Bonnet walked over to the ATM and lent them the money. When Bonnet finally had a moment alone with the woman, she then pleaded to the teen that she needed help.

The woman’s plea touched Bonnet. The teen wasn’t going to the Laval that day, but got on the bus anyways to follow the pair. Malyk said, “My plan was to keep them in a public place where he wouldn’t hurt her.”

After arriving to Laval, Bonnet suggested that the couple got some food to eat at his expense. He gave the couple $50 and excused himself to the restroom. In the restroom, he called police and told them that “someone has been kidnapped.” Shortly after the call, Officers arrived and took care of the situation.

What Bonnet didn’t know at the time was that police officers were already looking for the perpetrator. The abduction of the woman happened just hours before Bonnet coincidentally ran into to them. Previously, the abuser spent time behind bars for assaulting his ex and sending her death threats.

The teen’s actions and quick thinking perhaps saved that woman’s life that day. The teen didn’t speak to the woman after police arrived, but says he could see tears and the relief in her eyes.

An incredible rescue through following his gut instincts.
