Instagram Now Lets You Save and Organize Photos Into ‘Collections’
Instagram just added yet another feature to its growing list of abilities: Collections. A natural evolution of the “Save” feature IG added back in December, Collections lets you organize the photos you’ve saved into personal galleries.
For now, Collections is entirely a personal feature—only you can see what you have saved or what your collections look like, and there is no “share” functionality built in at all. Still, many see this as a first step towards challenging Pinterest and the “boards” people create there. If and when Collections become a public or sharable affair, Pinterest will almost certainly take a hit.
For now though, Collections is more about personal inspiration. “Whether you want to plan your next day trip, revisit your favorite artists’ illustrations or always have some animal videos on hand,” writes Instagram, “collections can help you keep track of the posts you want to remember.”
Creating a new collection is easy. Either tap and hold on the save button underneath a photo to create a new collection starting with that shot, or tap the plus icon in the top right corner of the Save tab in your profile to create a collection using photos you’ve already saved.
Once created, you can name your collection and browse through it under the newly-created Collections tab.
According to Instagram, 46 percent of users have already used the Save feature since it was introduced in December (incidentally, not including this writer… except once by accident). Maybe Collections will help push that number closer to 100%.
