iPhone 8 Plus deals: what price should you expect to pay?

We feel a bit sorry for the iPhone 8 Plus. Usually Apple's big screen iterative update would be set to be the new daddy of the iPhone family. But this year sees the prospective launch of the iPhone X (previously rumoured to be called the iPhone 8) to steal its thunder.

But the successor to the iPhone 7 Plus, (which may yet be called the iPhone 7S Plus) will still have a very valuable function to fulfill in the iPhone menagerie. If you want a 2017 large screened Apple smartphone, but the prices we've guesstimated for the iPhone X make you feel dizzy, then the iPhone 8 Plus is the one for you.

But how much will iPhone 8 Plus deals cost? It's a good question, and TechRadar's experience and expertise make us the ideal people to predict the price. Keep reading to see how much you should expect to part with to get hold of the 8 Plus outright and on a contract plan.

iPhone 8 Plus price: how much will deals cost?

Well, you can currently buy 2016's iPhone 7 Plus for an RRP of £719. We know -
that's an awful lot of money to splash out on a smartphone. But after what we saw on the launches of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8, the trend is that prices are only going to go up further.

So what does that mean for the iPhone 8 Plus? We're expecting it to start selling for £799. That seems like a comfortable fit between the price of the 7 Plus and estimated cost of the iPhone X. And with Black Friday just a few months away, we can't imagine Apple making too many concessions on the starting price.

When can I buy the iPhone 8 Plus?

You haven't got long to wait now. Apple's big launch event is scheduled for Tuesday September 12 and we hear that pre-order deals should be available this Friday 15. If previous iPhone launches are anything to go by, we should see the newest phones the following Friday - so you could be holding your shiny new iPhone 8 Plus in less than a fortnight.

If you sign up for notifications from Carphone Warehouse, it will email you as soon as pre-order deals become available on its website. Then you can choose the tariff that best suits you and know you'll be among the first to own an iPhone 8 Plus.

TechRadar predicts the best iPhone 8 Plus deal

We've searched through the records to refresh our memory of the kind of tariffs you could get the iPhone 7 Plus on at launch to get an idea of what the 8 Plus will cost on a contract plan. Unless you have a spare £800 burning a hole in your pocket, we're guessing this is how you're going to fund your new smartphone...

iPhone 8 Plus | £149.99 upfront | 2GB data | Unlimited minutes and texts | £48 per month
We're afraid you are reading that correctly - £48pm was about the lowest you could get on the 7 Plus. Unless you can survive with a tiny amount of data, we don't think you'll be able to quite get away with paying less than £1300 over the course of your two year contract for the iPhone 8 Plus.  Total cost over 24 months is £1301.99

Oh, we know it's high. But we can't see how iPhone 8 Plus deals can realistically get any cheaper than this. And that's just for starters - if you need more data, you'll be looking at even higher tariffs. 10GB data plans on the iPhone 7 Plus were around the £55 per month.

One way to potentially save a packet would be to combine an unlocked 8 Plus handset with a SIM only deal. Monthly plans start at a mere £3.99 a month, and you can get healthy data allowances for no more than a tenner a month. Now we know that would involve having to pay that £800-odd upfront, but if that's something you can do, then this isn't a wholly ridiculous idea.

And things could always be worse - check out how much we're expecting the iPhone X to cost!
