Facebook has acquired tbh, an anonymous polling app that's beloved by teens.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but Facebook spokeswoman Vanessa Chan told Business Insider on Monday that tbh's four cofounders (Nikita Bier, Erik Hazzard, Kyle Zaragoza and Nicolas Ducdodon) will move out of the startup's Oakland, California office to work in Facebook's Silicon Valley headquarters.

“tbh and Facebook share a common goal - of building community and enabling people to share in ways that bring us closer together," Chan said in a statement. "We're impressed by the way tbh is doing this by using polling and messaging, and with Facebook's resources tbh can continue to expand and build positive experiences.”

Tbh, which is an acronym for "To be honest," bills itself as "the only anonymous app with positive vibes." Designed for people 13 and up, the app lets students create anonymous polls about themselves and their friends.

Despite only being active in a handful of US states, app analyst firm Sensor Tower estimated in September that tbh had been installed more than 700,000 times. Last month, the app hit the top of Apple's free downloads chart in the App Store.

The app's four cofounders will continue to work on the app at Facebook, and tbh will remain a standalone app in the App Store, according to Chan. The startup raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding in 2013 from Bee Partners and Indicator Ventures, according to Crunchbase.

By purchasing tbh, Facebook adds another app to its arsenal against Snapchat, which recent studies have shown to be the most popular social network among teens.
