Indonesian Football Player Dies After Running into Teammate During Game

A longtime goalkeeper of Indonesian soccer team Persela Lamongan died shortly after accidentally clashing with a teammate during their game against Semen Padang.

Football veteran Choirul Huda left his recent game on Sunday on a stretcher, but was announced dead shortly after being transported to a local hospital.

The 38-year-old goalkeeper tried to clear a ball just moments after the halftime whistle, but accidentally bashed his head on a knee during the process, according to CBS. Unfortunately, the veteran of over 500 matches since 1999 did not survive the head-on collision involving his teammate and another player.

While both teams were able to finish their game, and proceed to the hospital afterwards, they were saddened after witnessing Huda’s lifeless body.

“The loss of Choirul Huda has hit us all hard,” the goalkeeper’s teammates exclaimed.

According to Bleacher Report, the last players that Huda literally came into contact with were his teammates, 29-year-old Ramon Rodrigues, and 30-year-old Marcel Sacramento of the opposing team. Huda’s fans and teammates took to Twitter to express their condolences to the longtime Indonesian football player.

The veteran goalkeeper died doing what he loved. Meanwhile, there are other promising football players who fell off their career path not because of their performance, but due to incidents outside of the field instead.
