10 things in tech you need to know today (NFLX, BABA, AAPL, FB)
Good morning! Here's the technology news you need to know this Monday.
1. SoftBank's investment into Uber is a done deal, according to a statement from Uber. "We've entered into an agreement with a consortium led by SoftBank and Dragoneer on a potential investment," Uber said.
2. Netflix cancelled its second Louis C.K. standup special after sexual misconduct allegations. "Louis's unprofessional and inappropriate behavior with female colleagues has led us to decide not to produce a second stand up special," Netflix said.
3. Dyson's electric car will have driverless elements. The car will also be completely self-made, as opposed to using parts from external companies.
4. Alibaba sold $25.3 billion (£19.3 billion) worth of goods on Singles' Day. The 24-hour event includes everything from an interactive fashion show to virtual games.
5. Uber lost an appeal in its landmark UK case over its drivers' employment rights. The judge upheld the decision to force Uber to treat its drivers in the UK as employees, not self-employed contractors.
6. Apple will release a software fix for iPhones that stop working in cold weather. The iPhone X has an issue where the touchscreen stops working when it gets very cold.
7. British startup Graphcore raised $50 million (£38 million) for its specialised artificial intelligence chips. Sequoia Capital lead this round of funding.
8. Reddit banned Incel, a community that advocated rape and violence against women. The group was estimated to have as many as 40,000 members.
9. Facebook is reportedly looking to create a new office over the road from Google's London HQ. It's keen to move into the King's Cross area.
10. Some iPhone X units suffer from crackling speakers at high volume. It comes weeks after a similar issue happened in the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.
