Snap faces its first censorship challenge, removes Al Jazeera's Discover channel in Saudi Arabia
Snap's found itself entangled for the first time in a politically-motivated censorship issue, one that legacy social media companies like Facebook have seen before. And it's never ended well, optically, for its competitors.
Snap, the tech company behind the popular app, removed news outlet Al Jazeera's curated content from its Discover Publisher Channels in Saudi Arabia at the request of the country's government on Sunday. Discover is Snap's digital media stand of sorts where publishers present content tailored to Snapchat's young audience.
