Oregon Man Who Sexually Abused Children Arrested in Shanghai

Toby Mendenhall, a man from Portland, Oregon who is accused and wanted for child sex crimes, was recently extradited back to the country from China.

Mendenhall, 41, was booked at the Washington County Jail on Oct. 24, with a bail of $2.5 million, KOIN 6 reported.

The authorities reportedly issued warrants for eight counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of first-degree sodomy.

Court records revealed that Mendenhall sexually abused three young female victims between 2009 and 2012.

He first became wanted by police last year for sodomy and sexual abuse stemming from an investigation that began in June 2016 in Washington County. The court then issued a warrant for the arrest of Mendenhall in December 2016, but he had already fled the country to China before police could ever get to him.

The 41-year-old suspect was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force in Shanghai, China, with the help of Chinese authorities, according to Portland Tribune.

Investigation is ongoing as detectives strongly believe there may be more victims involved. One angle they are looking into is the multiple locations he’s lived in the Portland metro area, including Vancouver.

According to Mendenhall’s HomeLight profile, he is a real estate agent with The Broker Network, covering the Portland, King City, Tualatin, Gladstone and Hillsboro areas for five years.

Mendenhall completed 10 transactions since 2009, and represented a buyer of a single family home that sold for $425,000.
