This SIM only deal for £8 a month from Plusnet is the cheapest 3GB plan around

It's a well-known fact of life that Three SIM only deals are usually the best around if you're looking for a new SIM at the end of your mobile phone contract. But as we approach the sales bonanza that will be Black Friday 2017, other networks are trying to get a slice of the SIM only pie.

The latest promotional price from BT-owned Plusnet is an absolute corker. You can get its 3GB SIM only plan for just £8 a month from retailer Direct Mobiles. That's the cheapest price in the UK for a 3GB tariff, which is the sweet spot for a lot of users.

And because it's on a one-month rolling contract, you're not committed for a whole year like most of the best cheap SIM only deals. That means you have the freedom to ditch your SIM if you get tempted by a new iPhone X deal or the like in a few months' time. But this deal is only around for two weeks – you'll have to claim it by November 8.

What's Plusnet Mobile like?

Plusnet Mobile is now owned by BT, so it's keenly watched over by a company with phenomenal experience in the telecommunications arena. It's an MVNO – or mobile virtual network operator – which means it piggybacks off a bigger and more established network – EE in this case. So you get the benefit of the UK's fastest 4G network, without the cost of an EE SIM only deal.

As well as excellent 4G coverage you also get the benefit of Plusnet's 'Roam Like at Home', which lets you use your monthly plan allowances in any EU destination and a few extra countries to boot. We also like the network's Smart Cap, where you can set a limit for the amount you’re happy to spend above your monthly plan price on chargeable services. That means things like calls to premium numbers, calls to 0845, 0844 or 09 numbers, any charges that may apply while using your phone abroad, or making international calls.
