You can now get a Chevy Bolt at dealerships throughout the US (GM)

Chevrolet Bolt 6

  • The Bolt is General Motors all-electric car.
  • When it was introduced it was initially available only on the West Coast. GM said Tuesday that the car is now available at dealerships across the US.
  • The vehicle is now the third-best-selling all-electric car in the US, still being outsold by Tesla's more expensive Model S and Model X.

When General Motors introduced its Chevy Bolt all-electric, long-range car last year, the $37,500 vehicle was available in only limited West Coast markets. Through late 2016 and 2017, more states came online.

A year later, customers throughout the US can purchase the car, which has been selling fairly well for GM: with 14,302 units moved through October, it's the third-best-selling all-electric vehicle in the country, behind the more expensive Tesla Model S and Model X.

GM said on Tuesday that the Bolt is now at "certified dealerships nationwide."

The Bolt competes with the Tesla Model 3, a vehicle that Tesla is currently selling for $44,000, but that will be available in a $35,000 configuration in the future. The carmaker has struggled with early production, producing just 260 Model 3s in the third-quarter; CEO Elon Musk had projected 1,500 in September alone.

Chevy has endured no production issues with the Bolt, but the vehicle doesn't have the level of demand the Model 3 does, based on pre-orders for Tesla's car.
