Filipino Boy With Deformed Knees Gets Life-Changing Surgery at Tim Tebow’s Clinic

An 11-year-old Filipino boy born with severe leg deformity may soon be able to walk properly without pain thanks to a hospital that superstar athlete Tim Tebow built in the Philippines.

Aldrin, whose last name was not revealed, had a congenital knee dislocation which caused his knees to bend the wrong way.

His condition left him with unbearable pain from standing and prevented him from taking long distance walks. Due to his stature, he is also often the subject of bullying from other children.

Aldrin underwent a life-changing surgery for free with the help of the Tim Tebow Foundation and Christian nonprofit organization CURE International back in February and is currently under rehabilitation.

“Essentially, Aldrin’s knee bends the wrong way like a flamingo,” Aldrin’s lead surgeon and medical director of CURE Dr. Tim Mead wrote on the CURE International blog.

“Look at his picture and be amazed he could even get around at all,” Dr. Mead added.

Realigning Aldrin’s joints, tendons and femur bones took a team of three surgeons four hours of surgery. The doctors then placed both his legs in a cast to protect the soft tissue and tendon as they heal.

According to Dr. Mead, Aldrin should be able to walk normally soon with strenuous physical therapy.

“Later comes the really hard part: rehab exercises. With hard work and God’s grace, Aldrin will be able to walk tall without people staring,” Dr. Mead said.

“When he had surgery it was OK because their staff gave us encouragement and they take care of us very well,” Aldrin’s mother said in a video uploaded recently by the Tim Tebow Foundation.

“They encourage me and gave me strength that God knows and has an idea of what is best for him. God is in control just like your doctors and whatever is good for Aldrin.”

Tebow, who was born in the Philippines to American Baptist parents, has been doing missionary work in the Philippines for many years, preaching at schools and villages, and assisting with medical care through his foundation.

The Tebow CURE Hospital, where Aldrin received his surgery and treatment, is one of the primary outreach initiatives of the Tim Tebow Foundation.

“I was born in the Philippines, and my parents have been missionaries to that area for over 30 years. The Philippines have always had a special place in my heart,” Tebow said. “I’m excited to be a part of this hospital that will bring physical and spiritual healing to thousands of children who would not otherwise have access to care.”
