Samsung Galaxy S8 spec leak reveals 30MP camera and built-in projector
We're likely still months away from the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8, but that hasn't stopped someone leaking a full spec list, complete with pricing details.
The leak, if accurate, points to a seriously impressive phone, with a 3.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon processor (likely the Snapdragon 830) and 6GB of RAM.
The display is said to be a 5.2-inch 2160 x 4096 one (up from 1440 x 2560 on the Samsung Galaxy S7), and the S8 will apparently have a 30MP rear camera with optical image stabilization, a 9MP front-facing one, a massive 4200mAh battery, a retina and fingerprint scanners, wireless and fast charging, a mini projector, 64GB or 128GB of storage and a microSD card slot.
Too many megapixels
While many of those specs and features are believable there are also a few questionable aspects. With most manufacturers, including Samsung, seemingly getting out of the megapixel race, a 30MP camera doesn't sound that likely, and goes against previous rumors of a 12MP or 13MP dual-lens snapper.
A mini projector also seems an unlikely inclusion, though Samsung does like to pack its phones full of tech and features, so it's possible.
Still, we'd take this whole rumor, which was posted to Weibo and spotted by Tech Updates, with a pinch of salt for now.
If it is accurate then you can apparently expect the phone to arrive in black, blue, gold and white in April 2017 – though that would likely be when it hits stores, as there's a good chance the Galaxy S8 will be announced in late February at MWC 2017.
The price will apparently be $850 (around £655, AU$1120), which in most regions is slightly higher than the £569, AU$1149 (roughly $750) launch price of the Galaxy S7, but if the S8 really has these specs then the price could be justified.
- We've still got the Pixel and Pixel XL to come this year
