Updated: iOS 10 update was bricking iPhones and iPads, but Apple says it's fixed now
Update: Apple says the iOS 10 bricking issue is now fixed, though anyone affected will still need to connect to iTunes or get in touch with AppleCare if they continue to encounter problems.
"We experienced a brief issue with the software process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability," Apple said in a statement about iOS 10, via Buzzfeed's John Paczkowski.
"The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers. Anyone who was affected should connect to iTunes to complete the update or contact AppleCare for help."

Apple released the iOS 10 update earlier today, but multiple users are reporting the new operating system has bricked their device.
The problem seems to arise when installing iOS 10 over the air (OTA) on an iPhone and iPad, and users across social media are reporting issues as they install.
Apple Support's Twitter account is seemingly aware of the issue, and is responding to users who complain of bricked devices, asking for more information.
Others have written to 9to5Mac about the issue, and one editor's iPad became bricked as he attempted to install iOS 10.
Update: Apple says a "small number" of users were affected, and the issue that was causing bricking is now fixed.
Users are seemingly having success restoring their phones and tablets by plugging them into iTunes on their Mac or PC.
Though the issue may be resolved now, it serves as a reminder that it's always best to back up your device before updating to any new operating system.
