75% of Singaporean Millennials Want to Be Their Own Boss

Three out of four Singaporean millennials want to be entrepreneurs in the next 10 years, according to research by GoDaddy.

In its findings released on Wednesday, the web hosting company found that 74% of Singapore’s millennials plan to create their own business or be self-employed within a decade, exceeding the 50% figure for millennials globally.

GoDaddy also found that 32% of Singaporean millennials started their current business while in school. Again, this is ahead of the global average of 24%.

Roger Chen, company vice president of Asia, said (via Today Online):

“Entrepreneurship is one of the core tenets of Singapore’s economy. We believe that the results from this survey illustrate the direction of entrepreneurship in Singapore. Millennials today are more open to considering entrepreneurship as a viable career, and we hope that our insights can help them in identifying the right tools and trends that can help take their businesses to greater success.”

The survey, conducted in collaboration with Morar Consulting and Vrge Analytics, took responses from 7,291 professionals from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Singapore, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States, Vulcan Post noted. Of the total sample, 2,707 were either small business owners or self-employed.

There was a total of 500 respondents from Singapore.
