ABC Tragically Cancels Dr. Ken After Two Seasons
Dr. Ken has been cancelled after surviving for two seasons on ABC. The TV network has axed several other shows this season, including American Crime, Imaginary Mary, Secrets and Lies, and The Catch.
The news comes ahead of ABC’s upfront presentation Tuesday, where they will further discuss the cancellations and the reasons behind them.
Ken Jeong’s comedy averaged 5.3 million viewers with an imdb.com rating of 5.7 with a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 in live-plus-seven tallies, which is honestly not terrible, but apparently underperforming according to ABC standards.
Its importance was not necessarily in its viewership, but rather in its rare portrayal of a typical Asian-American family. Debuting around the same time as Fresh Off The Boat, the two shows often did crossover episodes where the leading men, Jeong of Dr. Ken and Randall Park of Fresh Off The Boat, would appear in one-off storylines.
It’s up to Fresh Off The Boat to continue representing Asian-American families on TV now.
