Mom-shaming is real, and we all need to shut the hell up
If you’ve ever felt judged while trying your best to raise your kids, take heart: you weren’t imagining it. It was just some good, old-fashioned mom-shaming, an insidious problem that's disturbingly common.
This disheartening practice, which essentially means calling a mom out for a parenting choice she's made, is such a part of normal parenting life that some of us probably didn't even realize it had a special name.
But it does, and according to a new survey, some 61 percent of moms reported having been shamed at some point. The study, which was conducted by the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital at the University of Michigan, polled 475 moms with kids under the age of 5, and it really paints a vivid picture of how hard it is to be a mother in public. Read more...
