Netizens Praise Foreigner For His Act of Kindness in Helping Chinese Scrap Collector

Chinese netizens are giving mad props to a foreigner who took the time to help a scrap collector pick up bottles scattered by the wind.

The thoughtful laowai was caught on video extending his helping hand to a complete stranger on a street in Beijing on Tuesday, reports Shanghaiist.

The person who captured the footage explained that it was very windy outside and some of the plastic bottles that the man had collected were blown across the bike lane.

He further noted that the foreigner was the only one who actually stopped to help despite the number of other pedestrians who witnessed the unfortunate incident.

In the clip, the foreigner can be seen picking up the bottles from the bike lane and placing them back in his sack.

Footage of the good Samaritan’s act of kindness became widely shared on Chinese social media.

As the video went viral, netizens heaped praises to the foreigner for his good deed that has become rarely seen nowadays.

“This kind of foreigner should definitely be on the A-level!” a Weibo user wrote, in reference to China’s expat ranking system.

Some comments even went as far as comparing foreign people to locals.

“This just goes to show that foreigners’ quality is higher than Chinese,” one commenter was quoted as saying.

Other netizens, however, wondered if the “small” act of kindness drew such reaction from some Chinese just because the man was a foreigner.
