The alt-right weaponisation of the 'friend zone'
The "friend zone" is a term that's been bandied around in conversations about unrequited crushes and unreciprocated overtures for many a year. But, most recently, the term has been introduced into the alt-right lexicon and appropriated as an insult synonymous with male weakness.
Venture down the rabbit hole of alt-right Twitter, and you might come across a few words that are seldom uttered out loud; like cuck, snowflake, beta and SJW (social justice warrior). Now, the alt-right has come for the friend zone; a dating term used to describe a nebulous interpersonal relationship in which one member wants to be romantically involved with a person who'd prefer to stay friends.
