Tinder is Now Running That ‘Asian Male Hating’ Video as an Ad on YouTube
Tinder promised to pull its controversial ad featuring a female user swiping right on all potential mates except the Asian man, but netizens have determined that was a lie.
Reddit user Qiusunny posted a screenshot of the ad to the subreddit aznidentity on Friday, which popped up as he was watching an unrelated video.
Its appearance came as a surprise, as Tinder had previously apologized for the insensitivity and pledged to pull it from their app.
“Though it was not our intention, we see in retrospect how the content could be seen as insensitive, and we deeply apologize for any offense caused,” a Tinder spokesperson told HuffPost. “We believe that everyone deserves the chance to find their match on Tinder and we strive to make it a community of acceptance and inclusivity for all individuals.”
Huffpost further noted that “Tinder has since pulled the video from its app”, so many readers believed that would be the last of the poorly thought-out clip; therefore, seeing it in a YouTube ad was completely unexpected.
It is entirely possible that the video was not pulled from their marketing campaigns as an oversight.
