10 things in tech you need to know today (AAPL, FB, AMZN, GOOG)

Good morning! Here is the tech news you need to know this Tuesday.

1. Waymo's CEO said self-driving cars are "really close" to being ready for the road. The company invited Business Insider and other journalists to a testing facility at a decommissioned Air Force base to see the cars in action. 

2. Apple CEO Tim Cook and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg met Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting took place at an annual gathering of advisers to Beijing's Tsinghua University business school. 

3. Investors have backed an AI-doctor app called Ada with $47 million (£36 million). The round was led by Access Industries, the global investment firm of billionaire Len Blavatnik.

4. Nintendo is almost doubling its profit forecast due to massive sales of the Switch. The Japanese video company raised its full-year operating profit forecast to 120 billion yen ($1 billion, £760 million), as supply shortages on its new games console finally began to ease.

5. A senior civil servant with a £130,000 salary reportedly breached transparency rules when he quit and joined Amazon. Norman Driskell, the Home Office's former chief digital officer, joined Amazon as a director in May.

6. Spotify won't work with Siri on Apple's HomePod. The device will go on sale in December for $349 (£264). 

7. Facebook said that Russia-based operatives published about 80,000 posts on the social network over a two year period as part of an effort to sway US politics. About 126 million Americans may have seen the posts during that time.

8. Netflix confirmed that "House of Cards" will end with season 6. The confirmation came a day after star Kevin Spacey was accused of sexual misconduct. 

9. Slack, the $5 billion (£3 billion) work chat startup, has hired Google exec Brian Elliott. He will spearhead an important expansion effort and help it keep a leg up amid growing competition from Microsoft and $10 billion Aussie software giant Atlassian.

10. A BMW sports car once owned by Apple cofounder Steve Jobs is going up for auction. It's expected to sell for up to $400,000 (£303,000).
