Daniel Day-Lewis is a distraught dressmaker in the first 'Phantom Thread' trailer
It's a shame Daniel Day-Lewis' career is (supposedly) coming to a close, but what a way to go.
Phantom Thread reunites Day-Lewis with director Paul Thomas Anderson, with whom he made There Will Be Blood. As you'd expect, the results look exquisite.
Day-Lewis plays Reynolds Woodcock, a dressmaker in 1950s London. He's a "confirmed bachelor" until he meets Alma (Vicky Krieps), a young woman whose love disrupts his life forever.
You wouldn't know it from the trailer, but word is that Phantom Thread is like a highbrow Fifty Shades of Grey. Early reports suggested that the film might be about real designer Charles James, but the new trailer reveals that Day-Lewis is, in fact, playing a fictional person created by Anderson, who is an American writer-director.
