Asian Basketball Player SILENCES Racist Crowd Mocking His Height
A racist crowd fell silent after mocking an Asian player during a high school basketball game earlier this month.
Freshman Yuuki Okubo, who plays for Crossroads High School’s Roadrunners, stands at 5 foot 5 inches tall.
On Dec. 8, Okubo’s team was up against Chaparral High School’s Firebirds in a home game for the latter in Scottsdale, Arizona.
In a video shot by BallerVisions, the crowd — most of whom were White — began mocking Okubo’s height when he got fouled.
They yelled “4-foot-8!” on his first free throw.
They chanted “4-foot-7!” next…
And “4-foot-6!” later…
But that mockery was no use because Okubo made all his free throws!
The game ended at 85-72 in favor of the Santa Monica’s Roadrunners, according to MaxPreps.
If there’s one thing this crowd learned for the day, it’s a sweet poem:
Keep your head high, Okubo! We’ll be cheering for you.
