American Man Arrested for Sexually Assaulting 4 Women in Taipei During Drunken Rampage

An intoxicated American man was arrested in Taipei on Thursday afternoon after allegedly harassing another man, and groping the buttocks and breasts of four women in an alley near a Zhongshan MRT Station exit.

The 36-year-old man, only identified as Joseph, was reported to be physically and verbally harassing pedestrians at around 3 p.m., with one woman claiming to being bear hugged by him, according to Taiwan News Online.

CCTV footage shows the drunk man sitting in the alleyway to smoke a cigarette when a woman approaches and he quickly stands up to corner her.

The suspect was arrested under the Sexual Harassment Prevention Act and brought to Taipei’s Datong Precinct police station, where he reportedly continued to down alcohol and rant in English for four hours, shouting “F**k you Japan!” and “F**k you Korea!”

The Foreign Affairs Police team was brought in to help translate and the American Institute in Taiwan has been notified.

Five hours after his arrest, the man was still too inebriated to make a written statement, according to the police.
