Chinese Grandpa Becomes Nude Art Model, Gets Disowned by His Family

Wang Suzhong, an 88-year-old man from Chengdu province, China, was disowned by his family for pursuing a career in nude art modeling.

Wang, while speaking with Pear Video, detailed how he hard he struggled back in 2012 before becoming a nude model. According to Shanghaiist via Medium, he was, at the time, barely getting by, living alone on his 700 yuan ($110) a month pension.

Unable to fully provide for himself on such a small allowance, Wang knew he needed a job to make ends meet. A local college offered modeling gigs; Wang, intrigued, decided to apply.

As said in the report, a model normally makes 70 yuan ($11) per day for modeling with clothes on. Those who choose to do it in the nude, however, will receive an extra 30 yuan ($4) in addition to their base pay. Needing any extra cash he could get, Wang went for the latter.

His decision proved to be quite beneficial for him, as Wang earned more money and even made new friends along the way. His quality of life improved tremendously.

Once alone, he now spends eight hours in school every day. Teachers, as well as students, are always very kind to him, buying him food and talking to him during their breaks. Wang also likes to walk around the room and check out the students’ drawing of him, which he believes to be tasteful, citing proclamations made by Mao Zedong and the state media.

While everything may be going well in his work, there are sadly some consequences he had to face after making his decision. One of his sons expressed his strong opposition to the path he chose, even telling his father that he will not come to bury him when he dies. His other children also haven’t contacted him since he started modeling, giving the impression that they vehemently disagree with their own father.

Some might buckle under that type of pressure, but not Wang — he’s accepted his children’s view on him. He’s resolved to continue doing nude art modeling, as he’s found his purpose in life, companions to talk to, and a reason to stay physically fit.
