They Thought He Was the Actual Maui From ‘Moana’
Who knew that the demigod Maui from the Disney film “Moana” would be working at a Costco?
Two lucky little sisters named Ryley, 8, and 5-year-old Rylyn Dewiggins, of Oahu, recently made the discovery when they found him handling a cash register at the local Costco in Kapolei, Hawaii.
According to their mom, local radio host Rella Rivera, 42, they have been regularly looking for him.
“Each time my daughters come to Costco, they search for the ‘real life’ demi-god, Maui,” Rivera told People.
Well, it’s actually a local guy named William Va’ana, a.k.a. “Big Will”, who is always happy to play the character each time the girls come visit. In the now viral video clip, the 33-year-old Maili resident can be seen playing along as the girls get excited about meeting him.
In an interview with Hawaii News Now, Va’ana said he enjoys making children happy playing the character voiced by Dwayne Johnson, especially with Maui’s trademark call: “Chee hoo!”
The cool man has earned respect and admiration from netizens for his gesture.
Jokes from netizens were aplenty too:
Rivera, who posted the video on Friday, noted that the friendly supermarket cashier actually does the character for children’s parties.
“Will, featured in this video also does character appearances as Maui for parties and previously at Aulani Disney resort,” she said. “Thank you Will, for bringing a smile to our daughters’ faces at each visit!”
