Ex-Triad Member’s NYC Rooftop Video Shoot Ends With 43 Arrested
Chinese-American Brooklyn-born rapper China Mac was recently arrested along with 43 other people during a rap music video shoot on the rooftop of a bathhouse in Manhattan, New York City.
Mac, whose real name is Raymond Yu, had earlier posted about the shoot on social media, drawing dozens of people to the site on 95 Baruch Drive near Houston St.
“We goin’ have a gangsta party out here,” Yu said in a video posted on Facebook on Friday. “Listen up ya! Email redmoneyrecords@gmail.com for the video shoot location. You do not wanna miss this epic shoot! It’s going to be super lit!!!” he stated in the caption.
Yu, who is a former notorious gang member, was arraigned on charges of unlawful assembly, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct on Sunday. He was released without bail and is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 16.
Thirty-three of the 43 individuals arrested alongside the rapper were later issued with desk appearance tickets.
According to the New York Post, the authorities found two imitation rifles and one real firearm on the rooftop.
“They had red and blue flags and they were shooting some kind of gangster film,” 65-year-old resident Lusaida Rodriguez, who witnessed the arrest, was quoted as saying. “They’re not careful, you know? Get a friggin’ permit — how much could it be?”
In 2014, the hip-hop artist was released from jail after serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting rival rapper Christopher Louie at a Chinatown club in 2003. Louie was partially paralyzed due to the incident.
According to Yu’s account after his release, Louie’s associate allegedly “disrespected” the wife of one of his friends who was in prison at the time, and when he confronted him, it was Louie who charged at him with a knife.
